THE ULTIMATE TYPE CHALLENGE!
What is it, you ask? Well, it’s the Ultimate One-Type Challenge in any Pokemon game. A One-Type Challenge is when you play any Pokemon game using only one overall type; for example, my friend and I did a bug-type challenge in Black/White, and we used all the varieties of bug-types in the game and nothing else. Bug-types all the way. The Ultimate Challenge, however, has the final goal of beating a single version with every type. In other words, 17 runs through SoulSilver, each time utilizing a new type.
My friend and I thought it sounded fun.
The only rules are that you must beat the Elite Four twice with Pokemon of only the one type you choose for that run, using only the Pokemon in that Generation. Dual-types may be used.
However, in order to promote team diversity, we added a few benefits:
- If a Pokemon you want for your team doesn’t appear until after the Elite Four or in the opposite version, you can trade over an egg of that Pokemon from another game. (Side: if it’s like a Growlithe vs. Vulpix issue, the player should wait until they encounter the opposite Pokemon in their game)
- If an evolutionary item doesn’t show up until after the E4, or if there’s only one in the game and you need up to one more, same rules apply. It can be traded over.
